School spirit has infected Escambia County High School this week as the Blue Devils student body prepares to celebrate homecoming Friday with a parade, football game and the crowning of the 2011 ECHS homecoming queen.
The week kicked off on Monday with the first of five themed days as the students were allowed to wear their pajamas to school and continued on Tuesday with costume day allowing the student’s to dress up as their favorite character or use their imagination to create a new one.
Events continue today with another theme and the line up improves as the week continues.
A bon fire will be held on Thursday night with the cheerleaders and band set to perform, Escambia County High School teacher Andrea Chance said.
“Wednesday, we have flashback day and we also have spirit day later this week,” she said. “We also have events lined up Thursday night including the bonfire that will be across from the school from 7 to 8 p.m. At the fire, we will have a stage set up and the band and cheerleaders will perform.”
On Friday, the events will begin early as the school will host a homecoming tea and pep rally for returning alumni to attend.
The tea and pep rally will begin the events that will run Friday, which includes the annual homecoming parade, Chance said.
There will be a homecoming tea beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a tour of the school followed by the tea at 10 a.m. and a pep rally will be held from 11:30 a.m. until noon,” she said. “Our homecoming parade lines up at 1:30 p.m. and begins at 2 p.m.The parade will begin at the YMCA and return to the school at Buck Powell Drive.”
Homecoming will be concluded with the Blue Devils’ football game against Monroe County where the queen will be announced, Chance said.
