Lady Cougars defeated 52-41 on road

A weak second quarter hurt the Lady Cougars of Canoe as the Crenshaw Christian Cougars 52-41 defeated them on Monday night at Crenshaw Christian.

The EA Lady Cougars (5-3, 0-0) held their own for three quarters of the match up, but fell behind when the Crenshaw Lady Cougars held them below double-digits in the second period.

Escambia Academy took the lead in the first quarter as they battled back-and-forth with Crenshaw to come away with a 15-14 lead.

The lead disappeared in the second quarter as the Crenshaw Lady Cougars stopped EA’s offensive efforts and outscored them 15-4 to go into halftime leading 29-19.

After the break, the two teams came out and fought point-for-point in the final two periods with the EA Lady Cougars unable to gain any ground on Crenshaw’s lead.

In the third quarter, both Lady Cougars teams matched each other on the court with each team scoring 11 points.

Leading 40-30 moving into the final quarter, the Crenshaw Lady Cougars held their ground as they outscored EA 12-11 to hand them their third loss of the season.

EA Lady Cougar Grayson Emmons led her team in the loss scoring 19 points. She also posted eight rebounds.

Escambia Academy’s Lacie Flowers also scored in double-digits with 10 points and pulled down five boards in the game.

Megan Duncan finished with three points and a team-high 11 rebounds, while Peyton Snider scored two points and had 10 rebounds.

The Lady Cougars next game will be this weekend in the Fort Dale Tournament in Greenville. Games begin on Friday.
