Wade Jernigan's decision to be an organ donor produced hope for other families from the tragic loss of his untimely death.

2011 is nearly gone, but many of the people who inspired those around them during the year will almost certainly remain on the minds of people in the Atmore area for countless years to come.

From LCpl Travis Nelson who gave his life for his country in Afghanistan, to Escambia Academy football player Braxton Chastang, who overcame debilitating injury to emerge as a stand out player, 2011 has brought no shortage of inspiring individuals.

Still others will live on far beyond 2011 in a different way. In Atmore, Trischelle Salazar’s gift of a kidney donation changed her life and the life of her stepmother Kris Lyons. Now both women share a bond few can claim.
