Atmore – The Alabama Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society recently received a big boost thanks to BP. As part of the BP Fueling Communities grant program,
Diamond Gasoline Stations was able to secure a grant from BP to help the Alabama chapter of this charity. BP gave a donation of $6,500 towards the local chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The BP Fueling Communities program provides grants to local organizations that are nominated by BP’s Branded Marketers to support the communities in which they do business. Fueling Communities gives back to local organizations that support health, education, youth, food and housing to spread charity and goodwill.
These resources will go a long way towards providing services for local individuals who have been diagnosed with M.S.
“Thanks to corporate donations such as the $6,500 provided by the BP Fueling Communities program in support of Diamond Gasoline Stations Walk MS team ‘Gina’s Gang’, the Alabama-Mississippi chapter is able to provide many educational programs and direct financial services that help people who are touched by multiple sclerosis. The Chapter serves as a resource hub for our clients, providing materials to those who need information on symptoms, coping, communicating and assisting, said Chapter Vice President Andrew Bell. “In 2011, the Alabama-Mississippi Chapter provided over $37,650 in direct financial assistance to clients who requested and qualified for emergency financial support. Additionally, members of the National MS Society Chapter receive the chapter’s newsletter and mailings about programs, events and volunteer opportunities. Many of the programs and services are free or require nominal fees in large part thanks to the generosity of corporate partners like BP.”
Each year, Diamond Gasoline participates in the annual M.S. Walk to raise funds for this charity. Over the past 7 years, their walk team, “Gina’s Gang,” raised over $80,000 for this charity. The BP donation is the largest donation that they have received since they began fundraising in 2005.
“We would like to thank the BP Fueling Communities grant program for the generous donation that they have made,” said Mitch White, one of the owners of Diamond Gasoline. “This charity is very special to us as we know quite a few people living with M.S. Right now, there is no cure for M.S, but we want to do our part to help support those who have been diagnosed. We would also like to thank all of our employees, customers, suppliers, and friends for helping raise funds for this charity.”
At the 2011 Annual Meeting for the Alabama Chapter of the National M.S. Society, Mitch and his wife, Gina, presented chapter vice president with the check from BP.
