This year’s meeting will take place on Thursday, Feb. 9 at the Club on Hwy. 21 beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The awards meant to recognize outstanding achievements and service in the community are awarded annually with the Citizen of the Year being presented to a person that presented excellence in the community from the year before. Last year’s Citizen of the Year award was presented to Greater Escambia Council for the Arts Artistic Director Phil Johnson with the Lifetime Achivement Award being presented to Atmore city councilman John Garrard.

There are no set requirements for who is nominated, but the award is designed to recognize outstanding achievements and/ or contributions to the community, Chamber Executive Director Sheryl Vickery said.

“Anyone can be nominated, business leader, mother, banker, teacher, farmer, anyone,” she said. “Bring your nomination to the Chamber office and give your reasons in writing why they person should be Citizen of the Year. “

Vickery added this is the community’s chance to give recognition to those people who might not otherwise be recognized.

The nominations must be typed in a letter with no limit on the amount of words that can be used. They must be sealed in envelope and delivered to the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce by the deadline of Monday, Jan. 23.
