ECHS beat B.C. Rain 47-44

Escambia County extended their winning streak to 13 games last Friday as they defeated the B.C. Rain Red Raiders 47-44 in Mobile.
The Blue Devils (14-4, 2-0) earned the win over the Red Raiders by holding them off in the fourth quarter after the home team put together a dominating third-quarter performance.
In the first quarter, Escambia County grabbed the momentum and ran with it as they knocked down their shots to jump out to a 16-11 lead.
The Blue Devils extended their lead in the second period with another good shooting performance as they put 13 more points on the scoreboard, while holding the Red Raiders to 12. At the half, ECHS led 29-23.
Following halftime, the Blue Devils saw a challenge from B.C. Rain, but held strong in the final quarter to sneak out with a win.
B.C. Rain found some offensive magic in the third period as they closed the gap with a 19-point quarter. The Red Raiders held the Blue Devils to 14 points and put the score at 43-42 head ing into the final quarter.
Both offenses stalled in the fourth quarter with the Blue Devils picking up four points and the Red Raiders two as Escambia County was able to get out of Mobile with a 47-44 win.
In the win, the Blue Devils had to outplay the Red Raiders at a fast pace, ECHS head basketball coach Anthony Hayes said.
“We really needed to slow the game down to our pace,” he said. “B.C. Rain really tried to play at a fast pace, but we had to settle down and slow the game down to our tempo. That was the key to our win.”
Blue Devil Dalvin Craft led the way in the victory with 13 points and 10 rebounds. He also posted two steals and an assist in the win.
Fred Knight chipped in 12 points for Escambia County, while also recording two rebounds, two assists and one rebound.
Blue Devil Tyrell Ford finished the win with nine points, two assists, one steal and one rebound.
Blue Devils Desmond Johnson and Tony McAroy finished the contest with four points each. Johnson also had two rebounds, while McAroy had four assists, three steals and two rebounds.
Desond Williams added three points and Darious Pettway rounded out the scoring with two points.
The Blue Devils next game will be Friday on the road at Saraland. Games begin at 4:30 p.m.
