Spring sports are arriving, which means the Escambia County Blue Devils track team is preparing itself for track and field events to be in shape for five meets they will compete in beginning in March.
The Blue Devils will compete in several events with all but one taking place at T.R. Miller High School in Brewton. The Blue Devils first event will be on March 6 at Northview High School in Bratt, Fla.
Practice opened this week for the Blue Devils with teaching being the main focus, assistant track coach Karl Smith said.
“So far things have been going well,” he said. “We are just doing a lot of teaching right now, and trying to incorportate some of that teaching into work at practice. Next week, we plan on getting into more of our work.”
In order to be field a competitive team, the Blue Devils will need to pick up things quickly.
Conditioning and finding the right skill set for events is the most important thing, Smith said.
“We have to be in shape, and we also need to continue to work on the small things,” he said. “Those tasks, as well as improving at our events are important for us to be successful.”
The Blue Devils first track meet will be on March 6 at Northview High School. The meet is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
