ECHS opens tourney with loss

On the first day of the 2012 Escambia County baseball tournament Thursday at W.S. Neal High School in East Brewton, the Eagles and Flomaton came away with wins while T.R. Miller and Atmore lost.

Thursday for W.S. Neal and Flomaton put them at 1-0 in the tournament while T.R. Miller and Atmore started 0-1.

On Saturday, T.R. Miller and Atmore will begin the day playing at 11 a.m. followed by W.S. Neal and Flomaton closing out the tournament with a 1:30 p.m. game.

WSN 14, Atmore 0

The W.S. Neal Eagles pounded out 11 hits and scored 14 runs while holding Atmore to no hits and no runs in their first game of the tournament earning them a 14-0 win.

W.S. Neal, serving as the visitors in the game, batted around in the top of first inning and scored five runs on three hits to set the tone for the game.

W.S. Neal would later add three runs in the second inning, four in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth innings to get the 10-run mercy rule win.

The Eagles used a trio of pitchers in Tyler Joyner, Jeremy Myers and Cam Blackman to get the win. Joyner got the start and the win on the mound as he went two innings and struck out one. Myers went the next two innings and struck out five and hit one. Blackman went the final innings and walked one and struck out three.

At the plate for the Eagles, Damion Williams was 1-for-2 with one RBI and Hunter Mullins was 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI.

Reid Johnson was 2-for-4 and Logan Williamson was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Brian Settle was 1-for-1 with a triple and two RBIs and Christian Purvis was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Myers was 1-for-1 with one RBI and Blackman was 1-for-3 with a triple and one RBI
