ECHS suffers first loss, bounces back against Monroe Co.

After suffering the team’s first loss on Wednesday, the No. 8 Escambia County Lady Blue Devils bounced back with a victory over the Monroe County Lady Tigers Thursday in Monroeville.

The Lady Blue Devils (10-1, 1-1) broke a 4-4 tie in the sixth inning to score nine unanswered runs in the final two innings to beat the Lady Tigers 13-4.

Escambia County opened the game strong in the top of the fisrt inning with Jasmine Ireland (3-for-r, HR, 3B, 3R) scoring on an inside-the-park home run and Kaylee Cox (3-for-4, 2 2B, 3R) scoring on an RBI-double by Taylor Hill (3-for-4, 3 2B, 2R).

The Lady Tigers  pulled within one run in the bottom of the first with leadoff batter scoring on an RBI-single.

The Lady Blue Devils extended their lead to three runs in the top of the third, as Diamond Williams (1-for-3, R) and Ireland crossed the plate. Williams scored on an RBI-triple by Ireland, while Ireland scored on a hit by Cox.

Monroe County made the score 4-2 in the bottom of the third inning with a run crossing the plate, but tied the game in the bottom of the fifth following an error in the field by the Lady Blue Devils.

Escambia County ran away with the game in the top of the sixth scoring four runs in the inning. Scoring runs for the Lady Blue Devils were Ireland, Cox, Hill and Y-netta Craft (2-for-4, HR, 2B, 2R). Craft had the shot of the game knocking a Monroe County pitch over the fence.

After holding the Lady Tigers to no runs in the bottom of the sixth, ECHS closed out their trip to the plate with five runs to go up 13-4. Scoring runs were Williams, Cox, Hill, Craft and Sierra Smith (1-for-4, R).

With another shutout inning, the Lady Blue Devils celebrated their 10th win of the season.

The Lady Blue Devils next game will be Tuesday, March 27 against the Saraland Lady Spartans.

Games will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the junior varsity.

Pitching plagued the No. 8 Escambia County Lady Blue Devils against the UMS-Wright Bulldogs, as they suffered their first loss 15-0.

In the loss, the Lady Blue Devils (9-1, 1-1) walked in 10 of the Lady Bulldogs’ 15 runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Offensively, the Lady Blue Devils were led by Ychelle Walker. Walker had the only hit of the game for the Lady Blue Devils.
