EA JV wins state

The Escambia Academy junior varsity track team won the AISA State JV meet last Saturday. The Cougars have won mutiple state championships in track in recent years.

The boys and girls junior varsity track teams at Escambia Academy added more hardware to their trophy case last Saturday.

The Cougars’ track teams won another junior varsity state track championship winning the 1A/2A portion of the meet.

In the boys meet, Cougars placing in first included Jake Leachman (Triple jump, 400m run and 4×400 relay), J.P. Sawyer (1600m run), Scott Brantley (Long jump, 4×100 relay and 4×400 relay), Jamey Vaughn (4×100 relay and 4×400 relay), Auden Lassitter (4×100 relay) and Kevin Gumapac (High jump).

Second-place finishes included Lassitter (Long jump), Saywer (100m hurdles and triple jump) and Kainoa Gumapac (300m hurdles).

Third-place finishes included Vaughn (100m run), Garrett Kirk (200m run), Walt Steele (3,200m run), Kevin Gumapac (300m hurdles), Leachman (long jump) and Garrett Nesmith (shotput).

On the girls side of the meet, first-place winners were Savannah Taylor (400m run), Mikayla Spruill (100m hurdles, 300m hurdles and 4×400 relay), Kaylee Rider (High jump and triple jump), Camryn Godwin (4×400 relay), Bailey Lancaster (4×400 relay and 4×100 relay), Victoria Sawyer (4×400 relay and 4×100 relay), Jocie Franco (4×100 relay) and Natalie Lassiter (4×100 relay).

Those with second-place finishes were Jessie Franco (3,200m run), Kaylee Rider (100m hurdles), Godwin (300m hurdles), Lassiter (high jump),Spruill (Triple jump), Anna Catherine Sasser (Shotput) and Melissa Wilson (Disc).

Third-place finishes included Jocie Franco (100m run), Lassiter (200m run), Claire Dawe (400m run), Fallon Chastang (800m run), Jessica Franco (1600m run), Victoria Sawyer (100m hurdles, triple jump), Lancaster (Long jump), Lindsey Weatherford (Shotput) and Cassidy Murphy (Disc).
