Dr. George E. Mitchell

Dr. George E. Mitchell, 84, of Atmore, and a resident of Lillian, Ala. died Wednesday, April 18 2012, in Daphne.

Mitchell was a member of Episcopal Church of the Advent in Lillian. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham school of dentistry and the former dental director of Mobile County, as well as a former director of the National Medical Audio Visual Center in Atlanta.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julian Huston Mitchell and Mildred Inez Crook Mitchell, and his brother, Dr. William Lloyd Mitchell.

He is survived by: his wife, Billie Hartsfield Mitchell, of Lillian; three daughters, Melanie Clem, of Hiawassee, Ga., Melissa Mitchell, of New Orleans and Erin Mitchell Speed, of Lillian; five grandchildren, Jennifer Clem and Kevin Clem, both of Hiawassee, Emily Speed, of Orlando and Sarah Speed and Ethan Speed, both of Lillian.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at 10:15 a.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Mitchell’s mother, Mildred Inez Crook Mitchell.
