According to arrest records, a deputy responded to a battery victim at Atmore Community Hospital. The victim, who was suffering from lacerations to his head, arms and both ears, including one ear partially severed, stated he and his girlfriend were asleep at his home when he heard a loud banging on the door of the fifth wheel motor home. The victim said when he answered the door Sims attacked him, hitting him in the head with an unknown object, attempting to choke him and eventually putting him in a headlock and biting off half of his ear.

The victim’s girlfriend told law enforcement she had been dating the man for around six months, but prior to the relationship, had dated Sims for two-and-a-half years. She states Sims was very jealous and felt his attack was due to her presence at the victim’s home.

An investigation of the scene turned up several objects with bloodstains, including a broken stick approximately two inches in diameter by five feet long, believed to have been used in the attack. Deputies also observed a dent in the trailer’s door that appeared to be “freshly kicked,” according to the report. The severed portion of the victim’s ear was also found on the scene but medical personnel at ACH told deputies they would not be able to reattach the ear.

Sims was booked into the Escambia County (Fla.) Jail in Pensacola and later released on $16,000 bond.
