A home on Third Street was a total loss after a fire early Wednesday morning.

A fire that erupted at a home on Third Street early Wednesday morning resulted in what Atmore Fire Chief Gerry McGhee called “a total loss.”

McGhee said AFD received the call of a burning home in the 100 block of Third Street around 2:30 a.m. and, upon arrival, fire fighters found the home fully involved. McGhee said no one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured while extinguishing the blaze.
The home’s occupants, Sonya Rivers, her 21-year-old son and another woman, have been under the care of Atmore’s Red Cross chapter since the fire and McGhee said the home’s owner, a Mobile resident, has been notified.

An investigation to determine the cause of Wednesday’s fire is currently being conducted by the state Fire Marshal’s office.
The one-story home was completely gutted by the flames. The rear of the home was totally demolished as were portions of the front and right side of the structure.
