Cal Ripken baseball on home stretch

Cal Ripken baseball games came to an early and abrupt end Thursday afternoon at Tom Byrne Park due to inclement weather, but with the sun once again shining teams have regrouped and are making last ditch efforts to impress as All-Star season approaches.
The FNB&T Athletics were among the teams forced to call it quits early Thursday afternoon after jumping on top of the United Bank Warriors 3-0 in the first inning of play in the 10 through 12-year-old division.
For the eight and under division, regular season action wrapped up last week but a hand full of Atmore players are now looking forward to All-Star action kicking off with up coming tournament play.
All-Star players for both Atmore and North West Escambia (Florida) were named early this week with tournament play for both teams, as well as Tri-County teams, Friday at 11 a.m. at NWE-Bradberry Park in Walnut Hill, Fla. The winner of the tournament will advance to the state tournament held in Cottage Hill Friday, June 22.
Atmore eight and under all stars for 2012 include Caden Battles, Josh Burkett, Aron Chavira, Caleb Davis, Talan Daughtry, Chaston Helton, Ja’Kanye Hooks, Anthony McCants, Ty’Derian Pettway, Gavin Snow, NaDavion Steele and Chase Wynn. Team manager for Atmore will be Ramauldo Chavira. Coaches for 2012 will be Tim Battles, Josh Burkett and Christian Swartzendruber.
The All-Star team for NWE-Bradberry Park eight and under division will include John Bashore, Tanner Boone, Aiden Broadhead, Conner Grant, A.J. Hasty, Reid McCall, Braeden McGhee, Travis Nelson, Ashton Ray, Tyler Ray, Jaxon Singleton and John Michael Ward. Patrick Boone will serve as the NEW All-Star Manager. Carl Ward, David Bashore and Mike McCall will coach.
