Registration for the Atmore YMCA soccer skills clinic and fall soccer league got under way yesterday and is ongoing. Enrollment for both is $45 for members and $65 for non-members. Those ages 3-18 are eligible.

YMCA Director Ross Terry will be in charge of the skills clinic, which will be held Aug. 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the Atmore YMCA. Practice for the fall soccer league will begin Monday, Sept. 3.

Terry said the skills clinic is a great way to warm players up for the season and teach new team members a the basics of soccer.

“We run all the players through skills tests and basic drills to get them accustomed to the game,” Terry said. “We teach the three-to-five-year olds the basic skills and not to touch the ball. The six-to-eight-year-old players focus on passing drills and the nine to 12-year-old teams try and put all the skills together.”

According to Terry, the leagues are divided into three different age groups, which include: 3-5, 9-12 and 13-18. Those in the 3-5 and 9-12 age group will play each other in Atmore, while the location of games for the 13-18 age group has yet to be finalized.

Brewton and Monroeville have been explored as possible locations.
