U.S. Congressman Jo Bonner speaks with Atmore residents Monday afternoon at the grand opening of the Republican headquarters located on North Main Street.

Members of Escambia County’s Republican Party gathered together Monday afternoon to unveil the GOP’s new Atmore headquarters located at 101 North Main Street.

Candidates vying for county and state offices joined United States Congressman Jo Bonner for the event, which included sign ups for volunteers to staff the new office, as well as the opportunity for local voters to get to know those whose names will appear on the ballots in November.

Escambia County Republican Party Chairman Jeff Peacock said the he was proud of the work that went into opening the Atmore headquarters and urged those in attendance to do what they could to support Republican candidates over the next month and half before the election.

“We have 43 days until the election,” Peacock said. “That’s how much time we have to make a difference. On November 7, when you wake up, will you think ‘I did everything thing I possibly could to make a difference in this election?’ Or will you think ‘I could have done more? I wish I had done more.’ You can make a difference over the next 43 days in one of three ways. Donate your time. Volunteer here at the headquarters.  You can contribute your influence. Put a sign in your yard or talk to five or ten of your neighbors or talk to people at your church. You can contribute your money. This helps keep our headquarters open. It also takes money to win and there’s no such thing as too small a donation.”

Bonner said he also believes the 2012 election will be pivotal in shaping the future of America.

“This a wonderful headquarters and you should be proud,” Bonner said. “Last week I had an opportunity to look into the faces of truly some of our greatest heroes. They are men and women from places like Atmore, Alabama. They went to a dangerous and unknown future to defend our country. They all said the same thing to me, they said ‘please, do everything you can to save America.’”

The Republican headquarters will be open six hours a week. Saturdays from 10 a.m. until noon and Tuesday and Thursdays from 5:15 until 7:15 p.m.
