Emily Bernice Williams-Packer

PERDIDO – Mrs. Emily Bernice Williams-Packer, 93, of Perdido died on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Mobile Infirmary.
She was a native and longtime resident of Perdido and had attended the Pine Crest School in Perdido. She was retired from Manor Slacks in Bay Minette where she had been a seamstress. In her leisure time she was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. She was a longtime and faithful member of the St. Thomas AME Zion Church in Perdido where she had served as president of the Usher Board, president of the Pastor’s Aide, superintendent of the Sunday school and a trustee.
Her husband, Thomas Packer Sr.; her daughters, Rosetta Davis, Angie Coby, Juanita Packer and Daisy Armstead; her sons, John Wesley Packer, Kenneth Wayne Packer and Willie Slate; her parents, Joe Williams and Letha Betts-Brown; her sisters, Gertrude Moss and Velader Jackson and her brothers, Cleveland Williams, Ballard Williams and Andrew Brown preceded her in death.
Her oldest brother, Melvin Roberson-Williams died on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at the age of 104.
Those left to cherish her loving memories are three daughters, Patsy Dozier of Mobile, Mary Fagin of Perdido and Wanda Packer Knight of Montgomery; one son, Thomas Lamar Packer Jr. of Perdido; six sisters, Johnia German of Perdido, Ethel Curry of Bay Minette, Ruth Hardin of Indianapolis, Naomi Pruitt of Detroit, Dorothy Jack of Atlanta and Eloise Wilson of Tyler, Texas; one brother, Joe Wiliams of Tyler, Texas; 10 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Celebration of her life will be held at noon Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the Morning Dove Baptist Church in Perdido with the Rev. Humphrey Shuford, officiating. Bishop Willie L. Williams, eulogist, and the Rev. Stanley Cox, host pastor. Retirement of her remains will be laid to rest in the Morning Dove Cemetery.
Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC of Atmore will be directing.
