The Northview High School Lady Chiefs’ softball team have gotten good at finding ways to win.

The team moved to 9-0 Tuesday, coming back from a 3-1 deficit to beat Holmes County 5-3 in front of the home fans.

“They knew they were down,” said coach Amy Holland. “They were just focusing in and saying ‘we’ve got to put the ball in play.’ We find ways to battle back.”

With the score tied at 1-1 in the top of the third inning, Holmes County is able to score on a one-out double. A HCHS runner was thrown out at the plate for the second out and Northview pitcher Misty Doran threw a bases-loaded strikeout to end the threat.

Northview hitters were retired in order in the bottom of the third, while Holmes County hitters were retired in order in the top of the fourth.

Holmes County took a 3-1 lead after on a passed ball. Doran struck out two straight batters to end the threat.

A one-out double by senior Shaquanna Jones gave the Lady Chiefs life in the bottom of the fifth. Jones scored on a Doran single that cut the HCHS lead down to 3-2.

With senior Samantha Johnson at the plate, Doran successfully stole third base and an error allowed her to take home, tying up the game at 3-3.

Senior Morgan Payne singled after a Johnson strikeout, but a groundout by senior Ariel Holland ended the inning.

A strikeout for Doran and a double play for the Northview infield stranded a Holmes County runner in the top of the sixth inning.

Sophomore Angel Lathan hit a fly ball to center that was dropped. Lathan ran to second base on the error. Ashley Mooney hit a grounder that was thrown to first, but sailed into right field. Lathan scored on the error to give Northview a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.

A single by Jones later in the inning scored junior Madison Arrington to give Northview a 5-3 lead and the Lady Chiefs would win by that score.
Northview played Chipley at home Friday, but results weren’t available as of press time.
