Cardinals beat Nailers in tee-ball

A single by Brody Baker in the bottom of the fifth inning propelled the Alto Products Cardinals over the Cornerstone Homebuilders Nailers in a 16-15 thriller in tee-ball action Friday.

The Nailers opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first. Braiden Walker and Miles Smith hit singles before Shawn McBride and Braden Glick singled to score them.

The Cardinals answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Layla Kidd and Cali McCants both singled before Quay McCants hit a three-run home run to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead.

Kalayah McCants, Brody Baker and Ty McCants all singled to score Kalayah McCants. Jahnal Neal-Williams also singled, but was stranded when the inning ended. The Cardinals took a 4-2 lead.

Jaylen Taylor singled to leadoff for the Nailers in the top of the second. Smith and Adrian Waller both singled before Luke Chavers tripled to clear the bases. The Nailers took a 5-4 lead in a back-and-forth game.

McBride singled to score Chavers to give the Nailers a 6-4 lead.

Isaiah Ephrim and Tori Proctor both singled for the Cardinals in the bottom of the second before Kidd single brought in a run. Cali McCants, Quay McCants and Kalayah McCants all singled before Brody Baker singled to empty the bases. The Cardinals led 9-6 at the end of two.

Taylor and Tevin McClain singled before singles by Walker and Smith scored them. The Nailers cut the Cardinals lead to 9-8 in the top of the third.

The Cardinals added two runs in the bottom of the third. Ephrim and Kidd singled before doubles by Cali and Quay McCants scored them. The Cardinals took an 11-8 lead.

McBride and Glick both singled to start things off for the Nailers in the top of the fourth. A Taylor triple cleared the bases for the Nailers, cutting the Cardinal lead to 11-10. Taylor scored on a Walker single to tie the game. Smith also singled but was stranded on base when the inning ended.

Baker singled before a Ty McCants single scored him. The Cardinals took a 12-11 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Chavers, McBride and Glick all singled to start things off for the Nailers in top of the fifth. A Taylor double cleared the bases and gave the Nailers a 14-12 lead. A Smith single scored Taylor for an insurance run at 15-12 Nailers. Walker also singled, but was stranded.

Kidd and Cali McCants singled to start things off for the Cards in the bottom of the fifth. Quay McCants hit another three-run home run to tie the game at 15. Kalayah McCants singled before scoring on a Baker single to win the game.

Blue Flames beat Shockers 32-27 Friday

The West Escambia Utilities Blue Flames scored eight runs in the top of the first inning of a 32-27 win over the Tri-Co Electric Shockers.

The firepower began with singles by Jovan Brown, Eli Covington, Isaiah Powers and Lorenzo Arnold all singled to start the top of the first. Nyzavion French doubled to clear the bases and give the Blue Flames a 5-0 lead.

Tynekia Harris singled before K.J. Taylor tripled to score French and Harris and give the Blue Flames a 7-0 lead. Joshua Hetrick and Caden Hughes singled. Hetrick scored on a single by Brandon Dean.

The Shockers scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning. With Tony Brown, Brodie Phillips and Ronta Watson all on base with singles, Gabe Hooks hit a home run to clear the bases and give cut into the Blue Flames lead at 8-5.

Harper Harrison singled after two-straight Shockers outs before Jamarion Hooks singled to make the score 8-5 Blue Flames.

Pearson Franklin led off the second inning with a single for the Blue Flames before Brown scored a triple to put the Blue Flames up 9-5. Covington and Powers singled to make it 10-4 before Arnold added two more runs with a home run. The Blue Flames led 13-4.

French hit a solo home run to make it 14-5. Taylor and Hughes each singled before a triple by Dean scored them. The Blue Flames led 16-5.

The Shockers scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning. Riley Harrison singled before Brodie Phillips cleared the bases with a double. Watson hit a triple to score him and cut into the Blue Flames lead to 16-7.

Watson scored on a single by Gabe Hooks. Wyatt Swearinger and Harrison singled before Jamarion Hooks doubled. Brayden Phillips singled to score Jamarion Hooks.

The Shockers cut the Blue Flames’ lead to 16-12.

The top of the third inning saw the Blue Flames score eight runs yet again. Franklin led off with a double before a Brown single scored a run and gave them a 17-12 lead. Covington reached base with a single and Powers doubled before Arnold hit his second-straight home run to give the Blue Flames a 20-12 lead.

French and Harris singled before a Taylor double scored them. A Hughes single scored Taylor to give the Blue Flames a 24-12 lead.

Riley Harrison singled before scoring on a Brodie Phillips triple to cut the Blue Flames lead to 24-13 in the bottom of the third. Phillips also scored a run to make the score 24-14 after three.

Dean doubled for the Blue Flames in the top of the fourth before a Brown triple scored him. Powers singled to score brown. Arnold singled and French singled in the inning.

The Blue Flames led 28-14.

The Shockers cut the lead to six with eight runs in the bottom of the fourth. Swearinger tripled and DeAndre Hooks singled to score him. Harper Harrison singled before Jamarion Hooks hit a two-run home run.

Jay Robinson, Riley Harrison and Brown all singled before Brodie Phillips doubled.

The Blue Flames led 28-22 at the end of four.

The top of the fifth inning saw a home run by Harris to leadoff and singled by Taylor, Hetrick, Hughes and Brown. The Blue Flames led 32-22.

Down by 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Shockers’ Watson led off with a single and scored on a Gabe Hooks triple. A Swearinger single scored Gabe Hooks, while DeAndre – with a single – and Harper Harrison – with a double – both reached bases. A Robinson single cleared them. The Blue Flames won 32-28.
