Two correctional officers at Holman Prison were treated for non-life-threatening injuries after two “altercations” broke out between guards and inmates in the prison’s segregation unit Tuesday night.
According to Department of Corrections Public Information Officer Brian Corbett, at approximately 8:15 an inmate attacked a correctional officer while taking part in a routine shower call.
“An altercation ensued between the inmate and the officer while we were conducting a shower call, which is just a standard operating procedure,” Corbett said. “As assistance came, another altercation between a different inmate and officer took place. Both altercations were subdued pretty quickly.”
Corbett said both officers and one inmate left the facility for further medical treatment.
Corbett said the names of those involved in the altercations have not been released by the Alabama DOC as the incident is under investigation and more criminal charges are possible.
