For parents and guardians who missed the first three opportunities to pick up free vouchers for a backpack full of school supplies from members of the Escambia Baptist Association, Monday will be a final chance to take advantage of the offer.
The project, “Supplying Students for Success,” will be an on-going project with plans to distribute the backpacks Aug. 10 — just in time for the start of the school year.
Vouchers for the backpacks have been handed out at churches across the county and will be again available Monday.
Churches on the list of pick up spots include: Brooks Memorial Baptist Church in Atmore; Flomaton First Baptist Church; Little Escambia Baptist Church; Liberty Baptist Church; Alco Baptist Church; East Brewton Baptist Church; and Zion Hill Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until noon.
School supplies that will be included in each backpack include: Fiskars Scissors; Crayola Crayons (24 ct.); Wide Rule Paper; #2 Pencils; glue (liquid or stick); plastic pocket folders with prongs; “Pink” erasers; Crayola Washable Markers; Construction Paper; composition book.
Peggy Ray with the Escambia Baptist Association said the “Supplying Students for Success” program will be handing out the vouchers for a free backpack filled with school supplies for students in kindergarten through fourth grade.
Peggy and her father Wendell Ray, director of missions for the Escambia Baptist Association, said the program is intended to help families struggling to meet the financial demands of purchasing uniforms and school supplies for the upcoming school year.
Backpacks will be distributed Aug. 10 at First Baptist Church in East Brewton, First Baptist Church of Flomaton and Brooks Memorial Baptist Church in Atmore from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Ray said.
