Silverzee Longmire Brown

ATMORE – Silverzee Brown was born Aug. 29, 1926, in Georgiana. She was one of five children of the late Clarence and Erie Longmire, of Georgiana. She completed her secondary education at Lomax Hannon Training School, after finishing high school.

She completed requirements for her B.S. degree in education from Alabama State University as well as her Master of Science degree. She completed her education requirements at South Alabama. She had a lengthy career as an educator in the Escambia County School District.

She married Willie L. Brown as a young woman and to this unit one son was born, Willie Anthony Brown, who has one daughter, Tiffany Franklin, of Dallas.

She was a faithful member of Gaines Chapel for more than three decades. She served in many positions at the church, which included Sunday school teacher, senior choir member, hospitality committee and trustee board. Her love for community led to her involvement in many civic and social organizations, which included: the Atmore Garden Club; The American Red Cross; executive advisor for the Concerned Citizens of Atmore; Hospital Auxiliary Board; Atmore Hall of Fame Board; Christian Care Ministry; Retired Teachers Association; and Pink Ladies.

Her husband, Willie Lee “Hank” Brown; her parents, Clarence and Eria Longmire; and her two brothers, Howard and Carlton Longmire preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted son, Willie Anthony Taylor; two sisters, Louise Taylor, of Detroit and Cormie Savage, of East Lansing, Mich. She has a host of nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives. She shall also be missed by the entire community of Atmore.

Her family and friends will miss her loving and infectious smile and genuine concern for others. There is peace and comfort in knowing that she has flown away to a place where sickness, pain and death will be no more.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Gaines Chapel AME with the Rev. Joseph Williams officiating. Interment will be held in Fairview cemetery. Public viewing will be held from 2 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at Turner Funeral Home.
