St. Robert’s yard sale continues today

There was a line outside St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church at 8 a.m. Friday morning, but it wasn’t because Mass was about to begin.

The church on Main Street was having a yard sale to raise money for its fall festival, which will be held Nov. 1-2. The yard sale continues today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We got here at 8 to open at 9 and people were already lined up in the parking lot,” said parishioner Blinda Smith.

All the items for the sale Friday, which will help the church purchase Boston butts for the festival, were donated by church members, said parishioner Mary Ann McCabe.

“The tables were full,” she said. “We’ve had lots of help and lots of donations.”

Smith hopes that after a successful day Friday, more donations will come in.

“Hopefully we get some new items,” she said. “We sold so much today that we’ll have to beat the bushes to find some more items.”

Smith said the church will also participate in the Taste of the South next month, where their barbecue sandwiches have done well, taking second last year.

“That’s our big advertisement,” she said. “The yard sale underwrites the initial grilling.”

This year’s Taste of the South will be held Thursday, Sept. 19.
