A local group is planning a chili cook-off to raise money for a new X-ray machine at Atmore Community Hospital.
The cook-off, which is in the planning stages, will take place at Tom Byrne Park on Saturday, Feb. 22. The committee planning the event doesn’t yet have an official name, but has conducted organizational meetings, said Mayor Jim Staff.
Competition will be split into two categories — amateur and professional. An early registration fee will be set at $75 for amateur and $150 for professional. Late registration will be $50 more. The deadline to register is Friday, Feb. 7. There will be a limit of 60 teams.
Admission will be free to the public, but tickets will have to be purchased in order to taste the creations. The price set for the “taste” tickets is $10 for a booklet of 10. The possibility for an all-you-can-eat wristband or ticket has also been discussed, according to organizers.
