Adele Longmire Parmer King

Mrs. Adele Longmire Parmer King, 94, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., formerly of Atmore, gained her heavenly wings on Friday, March 21, 2014, in Mt. Pleasant, Mich.

She was a native of Atmore and had also lived in Georgiana. She was a graduate of one of the first graduating classes from Escambia County Training School. She was recognized at the Escambia County Training School Mass Reunion in 2000 as the oldest living graduate in attendance. She furthered her education at Trott Vocational School, where she earned her LPN degree. She worked as an LPN and head surgical nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, N.Y., for more than 30 years, retiring in 1984. Also, she operated King’s Deli & Fish Market from 1972 until 2003.

She was an active, dedicated, and loyal member of the St. John A.M.E. Church in Niagara Falls, where served as a Trustee, member of the Missionary Society, and the Analahiem Club.

Those who preceded her in death include her mother, Irene Longmire; her father, Quessie Crittende; her son, Wendell Parmer; and one daughter, Delores Parmer Woodtor.

Those left to embellish her precious memories and legacy are three daughters, Helen Hortense Parmer Brice of Chicago, Ill., Dr. Twinet (James) Parmer Gordon and Ann D. (Sidney) Parmer Ross, all of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host of relatives in Atmore, Detroit, and Lansing, Mich.

Funeral services were held at noon Monday, March 31, at St. John A.M.E. Church in Niagara Falls. Retirement was in the Riverdale Cemetery in Lewiston, with Williamson Funeral Home directing and Turner Funeral Home of Atmore announcing.
