As Gabriel blew his horn, the final chapter in the life of Clarence Sylvester Brown, 77, of Atmore, came to a close on Friday, May 1, 2014, at the Atmore Nursing Center.

A native of Atmore, Mr. Brown was a 1956 graduate of Escambia County Training School. After graduating high school, he moved to Westbury, N.Y., where he resided for many years. While in New York he worked and retired from the Layne Company, where he was a water well driller. He served actively as a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Westbury, where he was a Deacon and member of the male chorus.

After retirement, he relocated back to Atmore and united with the Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church, where he served actively until his health failed, as a Deacon and a member of the male chorus. Two of his most trusted songs were, “I Want Jesus to Walk with Me” and “I Will Trust in The Lord,”
