A fire that destroyed a former business last Wednesday is now being classified as arson.

At approximately 4:10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, the Atmore Fire Department responded to a call at the building previously known as the Flamingo Terrace, on Martin Luther King Avenue.

“Somebody called us and said that they heard an explosion there,” Atmore Fire Chief Gerry McGhee said. “When we arrived, the building was fully involved [on fire].”

McGhee said that law enforcement is currently treating the fire as an arson, and it is still under investigation.
