The city of Atmore will celebrate the National Day of Prayer on Thursday.
The day’s activities will start with a prayer walk at Atmore City Hall, beginning at 9 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., everyone is invited to come to the veterans’ memorial and city hall, to pray for government officials and first responders.
A community prayer service will be held at 5:30 p.m., at the Cornell Torrence Gymnasium at Escambia County High School. There will also be a Bible reading in the gym, following the prayer service.
A children’s prayer service with Miss Tippytoe will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., in the RPM trailer. This service is for kindergartners through sixth graders, who are signed in by an adult.
This year’s National Day of Prayer theme is “Lord, hear our cry,” and the verse is I Kings 8:28, “Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day.”
A special speaker at the community prayer service will be the Rev. Tom Demaree, the founder and director of Pentecost Walk. Demaree has walked more than 16,000 across the U.S., helping to bring prayer and God’s message of repentance to all 50 states and thousands of churches.
