CPSL to host seminar for veterans

Published 12:00 am Wednesday, November 4, 2015

As Veterans Day approaches, veterans and their surviving spouses are first and foremost in our minds.

As veterans age, the importance of understanding the exact benefits and how they can use the money earned for assistance with daily activities and healthcare grows.

Country Place Senior Living of Brewton and Atmore has partnered with Assisted Senior Benefits to bring area seniors and their families a free seminar to help bridge the information gap for veterans and their spouses.

“When wartime veterans turn 65, the VA automatically classifies them as ‘totally disabled.’ If they meet income and asset criteria, they are eligible for a basic pension,” said Jackie Stanford, veteran benefits expert and founder of Assisted Senior Benefits. “So many seniors don’t know they qualify, or had never heard of this benefit before, and it can be life-changing to many. More than anything, I want everyone at the event to realize that this benefit is out there for veterans who enlisted in the armed forces during wartime and their spouses.”

The event, which will be held on Nov. 11, is free and open to the public. Reservations are appreciated.

There will be a lunch held from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m., and the seminar will be from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Atmore location.

Those who are interesting in coming to the event, Vickie Walters at 251-923-8843 or email her at vwalter@countryplaceseniorliving.net.

Both the Brewton and the Atmore assisted living residences feature 24 suites, creating a close-knit environment. It is designed so that every suite is within 150 feet of a common space. This layout accommodates various levels of physical health and stamina, while encouraging social interaction among residents.
