City awards sidewalk bid

The Atmore City Council awarded a more than $300,000 contract sidewalk bid at its meeting Monday night.

Chavers Construction Inc. was awarded the bid, which totaled $376,795.50. Civil Southeast Engineering Group of Andalusia presented the bid tabulation and resolution.

Civil Southeast Project Manager Jeremy McMath, who presented the bid to the council, said he received eight different bids ranging from the lowest bid — Chavers Construction — to $557,461.90.

The available funds for the project was $415,000, he said.

Additionally, the owner of Chavers Construction is from Escambia County, McMath said.

Councilman Chris Walker abstained because his bank — First National Bank and Trust — is the construction company owner’s bank.

In other business, the council:

• approved to apply for airport improvement funding assitance from ALDOT;

• approved the transfer of a liquor license from Spuds to Circle K; and,

• approved to pay the bills.
