Storms expected by this afternoon

Scattered and numerous severe thunderstorms are expected to develop in the area through this afternoon and early tomorrow morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Tornadoes, with some potentially strong and long tracked, are the main threat. Damaging wind gusts of 60-80 miles per hour and hail up to golf ball size are also significant threats.

The storms are expected to make themselves known in the area late this afternoon, and by evening, the activity will shift into south central Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle.

The system will push through the Mobile area around 6-9 p.m. and through the south central Alabama and the panhandle around midnight.

Gusty surface winds will be prevalent from Wednesday through Monday, according to NOAA.
