Two locals engineered the Amtrak Inspection Train that made stop in Atmore last week.
Eric Gilley of Atmore was the pilot engineer, and Donnie Macks of McDavid, Fla., was the pilot conductor.
Standing near the train tracks, Rose Gilley, Eric’s mother, said it’s an honor to have her son chosen to pilot the train.
“I’m proud of him,” Gilley said. “My son had to go to Mobile (Wednesday night). He got up (Thursday morning) to drive the train.”
Gilley said her son was the one with a scruffy beard.
“That’s my baby,” she said.
