Donna Emmons Byrd

Donna Emmons Byrd, 52, of Excel, passed away on Thurs., Feb. 18, 2016, in Birmingham.

Donna was born on Dec. 3, 1963, to the late Edward “Red” and Helen Louise Emmons Wall. She was the owner and operator of Southern Portable Buildings, where she was a hard worker devoted to providing for her family and others.

Donna was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed fishing, going to the beach and river.

Survivors are her husband, David Byrd of Excel; one son, Robbie (Kristen) Boyette of Atmore; one daughter, Lacey (John Russell) Smith of Uriah; two brothers, Christopher (Donna) Emmons of McCullough and Allen (Stacey) Wall of Uriah; three grandchildren, Micah, Maddox and Baby Smith; along with numerous family and friends.

Family received friends on Mon., Feb. 22, 2016, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with the service at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Grindle officiating. Interment followed in McCullough Cemetery.

Glenda Faye Peacock

Our Little Angel, Glenda Faye Peacock, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 15, 2016, at the age of 60. She passed away in Perdido.

Ms. Peacock was a native of Jay, Fla., and a resident of Perdido since 1966. She was a member of the Perdido Church of God. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Josephine Peacock.

Survivors include her two brothers, Russell (Wanda) Peacock of Century, Fla. and Leon Peacock of Jay; four sisters, Hazel (Waylen) Lunsford of Milton, Fla., Mildred Dykes of Jay, Patricia Cox of Perdido and Diane (Pat) Hadley of Bay Minette.

Funeral services were held Thurs., Feb. 18, 2016, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Harrison Steege officiating.

Burial followed at the Cora Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Keith Lunsford, Paul Dykes, Rusty Peacock, Doug Peacock, Derrell Hadley and Hubert Parker.

Jerry Jerome Brooks

Funeral service for Jerry Jerome Brooks, 58, of Atmore, will be held Sat., Feb. 27, 2016, at 11 a.m. with Overseer Darryl North, pastor, officiating.

Inhumation will be in Stallworth Cemetery. Public viewing will be Fri., Feb. 26, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

Jessie Mae Smith

Jessie Mae Smith, 82, of Atmore, passed away on Fri., Feb. 19, 2016, in Mobile.

She was a homemaker, born in Lottie, Ala., on Sept. 30, 1933, to the late, William Oscar and Myrtle Coker Agerton Brown. She attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and also enjoyed attending Huxford Senior Center.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Buck Smith; daughter, Beth Ray; granddaughter, Lori Simmons; great-grandchildren, Zoey Simmons and A.J. Smith; two brothers, Tommy and Gene Brown; and two sisters, Estelle Parker and Ethel McKinley.

Survivors are her husband, J.D. Ashcraft of Atmore; three sons, Pete (Sue) Martin Alvin “Pete” (Mary) Smith of Atmore and Jacky (Cathy) Smith of Flomaton; three daughters, Dorothy Parker of Stockton, Jessie (James) Spence of Atmore and Darlene (David) Black of Frisco City; three brothers, Elbert (Brenda) Brown of Flomaton, Albert (Linda) Brown of Union, Miss. and Fred Brown of Jay, Fla.; three sisters, Thelma (Nolan) Watkins of Mississippi, Pearl (Jimmy) Johnson of Flomaton and Carol Jackson of Milton, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; family; and friends.

Services will be today, Wed., Feb. 24, 2016, at 10 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with Bro. Rob Arrant officiating. Interment will follow in Huxford Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Kevin Spence, Brian Spence, Heith Smith, Nick Robinson, Bobby Wooten and Jody Gilcrest.

Linda Gail Shiver

Linda Gail Shiver, 62, died on Mon., Feb. 15, 2016, at her home in Lottie.

She was preceded in death by her father, J.W. Milstid; step-father, Otis Ramer; and brother, Kenny Milstid.

Linda is survived by her mother, Marie Ramer Jordan; and four sisters, Gladys (Robert) Bartley, Brenda (William) Rolin, Carolyn Hall and Sharon Sahyouni.

Linda leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Danny Shiver of 46 years; and her three children, Tammy (Craig) Smith, Jennifer (Chuck) Bercier and Cole (Heather) Shiver; and eight grandchildren, Hunter, Tanner and Mason Smith, Hardy, Zachary and Nate Bercier, and Sara Kate and Holden Shiver. Numerous additional family and friends are left to remember Linda.

Possessing a servant’s heart, Linda faithfully cared for her family and friends through delicious cooking and baking from scratch. A woman of faith and the heart of the Shiver family, Linda shaped their spirituality by her Christian example, encouragement and prayer. With a zest for life, Linda loved to study the Bible, pray, fish, garden and play games —especially with her grandchildren.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support.

Funeral services were held on Sun., Feb. 21, 2016, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Chester Clark and the Rev. Wendell Hadley officiating.

Burial followed at Milstead Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Edward Duddy, Christopher Duddy, Nicholas Shiver, Jimmy Dale Shiver, Timothy Shiver and Clay Shiver.

Margaret Frances Golden Higdon

Mrs. Margaret Frances Golden Higdon, 83, passed away on Tues., Feb. 16, 2016, in Brewton.

Mrs. Higdon was a native and life-long resident of Flomaton. She was retired from Monsanto with 32 years of service. She was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church; she was charter member of the church, and only woman on the board of trustees and still on it.

She is preceded in death by her parents, JB and Zora Golden; one sister; five brothers; son, Ronnie Higdon; and great-grandson, Ronnie Daniel Higdon.

She is survived by her two sons, Danny (Mildred) Higdon and Kenny (Becky) Higdon Sr., both of Flomaton; two daughters, Shirley Lambeth of Flomaton and Sandra Howell of Atmore; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; special nieces, Linda (Robert) Holt and Debbie (Allen) Smith, both of Flomaton; and special nephew, Wayne (Danita) Lee of Robertsdale.

Funeral services were held on Fri., Feb. 19, 2016, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Day officiating.

Burial followed at the Little Escambia Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Kenny Higdon Jr., Cleve Johnson, Brady Lambeth, Jason Lambeth, Marcus Mathis and Daniel Higdon.

Honorary pallbearers were Ishiah Day and Josh Day.

Walter Edward Pierce

Funeral services for Mr. Walter Edward Pierce, 89, of Atmore, will be held Sat., Feb. 27, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Pilar Ground of the Truth Holiness Church with Rev. Michael Arnold, pastor of Peace and Goodwill Baptist Church, serving as eulogist; and Elder Shirley Dean, serving as host pastor.

Retirement of his remains will be with military honors next to his wife, Ardie Pierce, in Fairview Cemetery.

Public viewing will be Fri., Feb. 26, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC directing.
