Escambia County hasn’t won a game yet this season, but the Lady Blue Devils’ softball team is looking to get better, coach Brian McGuire said.

The Lady Blue Devils are coming off a recent slate of games, where they lost 13-0 to W.S. Neal at home, and 6-0 to UMS-Wright.

“We are very inexperienced in the pitcher’s position because we lost a good one last year,” McGuire said. “We’re trying to develop and work on some pitching. We have some good athletes that we’re hoping that will come together and make the team jell come area tournament time.”

From the start of the season, ECHS has been tested.

The Lady Blue Devils have already played Robertsdale, Baldwin County and Fairhope, in addition to UMS and WSN.

McGuire said the girls’ loss to UMS showed that they can play well.

“That was our best game all year,” he said.

This season, the Lady Blue Devils will be in Class 5A, Area 2 with Vigor and Jackson.

McGuire said VHS and JHS are supposed to be improved from last year.

JHS, like ECHS, lost its good pitcher last year, he said.

ECHS will be in action next Tues., March 8, at Flomaton.
