Linda Jo “Judy” Bynum-Welker

Ms. Linda Jo “Judy” Bynum-Welker, 64, of Upper Marlboro, Md., formerly of Atmore, fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on Sat., April 2, 2016, at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

A native of Atmore living here for most of her early life, Judy (as she was known by all who knew her) was a 1969 graduate of Escambia County Training School. She was an energetic lady who was fun loving and did a lot to assist the elderly and others.

As she began her heavenly journey, awaiting her beyond those pearly gates are her son, Anthony Martez Welker; her parents, Willie L. Sr. and Mary Alice Bynum; her sister, Eloise Bynum; her brother, Nelson Bynum; a grandfather, Leonard Bynum; and aunts, Annie Lee Bynum and Amanda Bynum.

Those left to embrace her love and cherish her life are her devoted daughter and son in law, Wantina Renee (Eric) Cash of Upper Marlboro; her grandson, Dekota Martez Welker of Excel; four sisters, Ruthie (David) Deese of Clinton, Md., Mary Ann Cottle of Tucson, Ariz., Martha Ingram of Atlanta, Ga. and Kadren Bynum of Atmore; five brothers, Willie L. Bynum II, Gerald Bynum, Quentin (Vonda) Bynum, Vincent Bynum and Jason Bynum, all of Atmore; one great-granddaughter, Sha’nya Andrews; her daughter in law, Sherie Andrews Welker of Excel; and a host nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends.

Celebration of her service will be held Sat., April 9, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church, 157 Carver Avenue, Atmore, with the Rev. Willie Hawthorne, pastor, officiating. Inhumation will be in Stallworth Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

David Michael Mathis

Mr. David Michael Mathis, 35, passed away on Thurs., March 31, 2016, in Century, Fla.

Mr. Mathis was a native of Pensacola, Fla., former resident of Century, where he spent most of his life. He resided in Cantonment, Fla., for the past year. Mr. Mathis was of the Christian faith. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Harvey and Dorothy Brown, and Pete and Mary Mathis.

He is survived by his father, Johnny Mathis of Flomaton; mother, Connie Booker of Baker, Fla.; Love of his Life, Heather Harris of Cantonment; two sons, Elijah and Chasen; one step son, Bradley Freeman of Flomaton; two daughters, Lulu and Sienna; four sisters, April (Timbo) Cofield of Bratt, Heather (Todd) Smith of Flomaton, Jodie (Brian) Grant of Bogia, Fla. and Aubrey Booker of Baker; three nieces and one nephew.

Funeral services were held Sun., April 3, 2016, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Patrick Carden serving as officiate.

Burial was at the Little Flock Primitive Baptist Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Travis Brown, Marc Brown, Nikki Odom, Yancy Zellers, Donnie Ray Edwards and James Allen.

Honorary Pallbearers were Eric Wiggins, Marty Brown and Allen Johnson.

Roger M. Griffey

Mr. Roger M. Griffey, 60, passed away on Thurs., March 31, 2016, in Atmore.

Griffey was a native of Frisco City and resided in Atmore most of his life. Griffey coached baseball for a number of years, worked for All-State Beverage, Gulf Distributing and Martin Construction.

He attended the Friendly Holiness Church. He is preceded in death by a brother, Roy Ladon Griffey; and Father, Roy Griffey.

He is survived by his mother and step father, Imogene and R.J. (Snuffy) Lane of Atmore; wife, Georgia McGhee Griffey of Atmore; four sons, Jason (Shannon) Griffey of Atmore, Scott Griffey of Atmore, Mikey (Jennifer) Griffey of Atmore and Justin (Lulu) Norman of Atmore; two brothers, Teddy Wayne Griffey of Mobile and Johnny Dale Griffey Turk of Mobile; three sisters, Betty Jean Griffey Hood of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Joanne Griffey Durbin of Atmore and Pamela Sue Griffey Brantley of Atmore; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Mon., April 4, 2016, at the Friendly Holiness Church with Rev. Ray Ward and Rev. Joe White serving as officiates.

Burial followed at the Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

Milford E. Lassitter

Milford E. Lassitter, 84 of Atmore, passed away on Wed., March 30, 2016, in Atmore. He was retired from the City of Atmore as a building inspector. He was born on Jan. 30, 1932, in Escambia County to the late Robert Jack and Ada Bell Wall Lassitter. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Atmore.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce M. Lassitter; and a daughter, Vickie A. Lassitter.

Survivors are a granddaughter, Alece Hadley; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Wilson, Jonathon Dunigan and Brandon Stone, all of Atmore; one brother, Russell (Maxine) Lassitter of Atmore; and one sister, Shirley White of McCullough.

Services were held Mon., April 4, 2016, from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Davis officiating. Interment followed in McCullough Cemetery.

Raymond Ernest Robinson Jr.

Raymond Ernest Robinson Jr, 58, of Fairhope, passed away on Mon., March 28, 2016, at his residence. He was employed at Chuck Stevens Automotive as a salesman, and was born on Dec. 9, 1957, in Crestview, Fla., to the late Raymond E. and Margene Still Robinson Sr.

He was an avid fishermen.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Scott Louis Robinson.

Survivors are, one son, Samuel Scott (Ruth) Robinson of Atmore; one sister, Donna Faison Rock of Daphne; two grandchildren, Mary and Lydia Robinson; two nieces, Brandi and Leia; two nephews, Jacob and Austin; one great nephew, Jackson; and one great niece, Anberlyn.

Memorial services were held Fri., April 1, 2016, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Bruce Hooks and Gene King serving as officiates.
