Atmore Christian School took a 2-0 lead over West Florida Baptist after the first inning, but errors proved costly in a 15-5 loss at the Panhandle Christian Conference regional in Loxley on Saturday.

The Lady Rams ended their season at the double elimination tournament that started last Friday. ACS fell 13-2 to Emmanuel in its first game.

WFB tied the game up in the bottom of the second and took a 5-2 lead it would never give up.

Valen Shelly, Kelsey Baker and Miriah Skelton hit RBIs in the top of the fifth inning.

Kaylynn Swartzendruber went 2-for-3 with a triple; Shelley went 1-for-3; Baker went 1-for-3; Haven Shores went 0-for-3 with an RBI; and Skelton went 1-for-3 for the Lady Rams.

West Florida scored one run in the second, five in the third, four in the fourth and fifth and one in the sixth.

Last week, the Lady Rams beat Bayshore 14-1, and lost to Central 13-3, to earn a berth to the regional.

Kaylynn Swartzendruber went 3-for-5 with two runs and eight RBIs to lead the Lady Rams. Courtney Hursh went 2-for-5 with four runs and one RBI. Valen Shelly went 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Kelsey Baker and Chaselyn Phillips had an RBI each for ACS.

Swartzendruber struck out three and allowed one hit in three innings. Lauren Metzler struck out six and allowed one run on no hits in three innings.

“We played a pretty clean game defensively,” ACS coach Anthony Swartzendruber said. “Offensively, we had big hits at key times.”

Swartzendruber’s daughter, Kaylynn, hit an inside the park grand slam to end the game.

“This was a big win to put us in the west regional championship game,” the coach said.
