Cougars to play at Cramton Bowl

Escambia Academy is one of eight high school football programs that is going to play in the inaugural SECIS Kickoff Classic at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl on Aug. 13, 2016.

EA and Edgewood Academy are the only AISA schools competing in the classic.

The event is organized by the Southeastern Commission of Independent Schools, and will pit two teams from AISA, the Georgia Independent School Association, the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools and the South Carolina Independent School Association.

EA will play in the first game on Sat., Aug. 13, at 5 p.m. against First Baptist School of Charleston, S.C. Edgewood plays in the nightcap at 7:30 against Jackson Preparatory of Mississippi.

AISA athletic director Roddie Beck said he chose Edgewood and Escambia based on the possible matchups.

“We were looking for teams with quality football programs that would match up well against quality opponents,” he said. “We then worked with the other three state associations to matchup based on classification and talent.”
