In bustle of cooking, Child came to mind

Growing up, watching TV was a pastime for me.

TV shows such as “Sesame Street,” “Seinfeld,” “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” “Law and Order (Criminal Intent and SVU, etc.),” “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and man more. Each TV show took me to a far off place, away from my current reality and circumstances.

Intertwined in my TV watching, I’d always end up watching some cooking show. One that I enjoyed from time to time was Julia Child’s “The French Chef.”

Public Broadcast Station (PBS) would always air episodes of Child’s cooking show all the time.

Child’s personality really shined during the show. I’d always love her philosophy on the use of butter.

She was quite liberal with the creamy substance’s use, to put it in a way.

The reason why the lead up with my favorite TV shows because over the weekend, I helped my parents get ready for a supper club dinner for Sunday night.

There was quite a lot of work that was done and a lot of work revolved around cooking.

Instead of resting on the Sabbath, my mom and I got to work. And work we did.

My mom cooked the green beans, pearl onions with mushrooms; I did the manly things, and then came back to the kitchen to prepare the main part of the meal — stuffed chicken. Believe me, I beat the you-know-what out of that chicken.

To cook the chicken dish, I flattened the chicken with a mallet and got it ready for the stuffing. The stuffing was comprised of a mixture of blue cheese, sour cream, bacon bits (homemade, I might add and other savory ingredients.

It was during this time of working as a team with my mom that I thought about Child and her show.

Child would always say use a lot of butter, and I loved that, just like I loved helping in the kitchen with my mom.

I didn’t get a chance to taste the chicken or anything else I helped make, but all reports said that everything turned out good.

By the way, my father was on his way back home from North Carolina and didn’t get to help as much, but he did his part as we were in crunch time leading up to the supper club.

I’m glad to have had the chance to go home and help my parents get ready for the event at our house Sunday.

And, I’m glad that I was able to think back on my early times watching TV and the shows I loved.

One last thing: Bon appétit!
