Atmore 10U, 12U teams claim district title

Atmore’s 10U and 12U Cal Ripken All-Stars claimed the District 7 championship last week at Tom Byrne Park.

With the win, the 10Us advance to the state tournament in Florence June 25-27. The 12Us will go play in Alex City.

In the championship game, the 10Us beat Flomaton 11-10, and the 12Us beat Monroe, 5-3.

Atmore 11, Flomaton 10

Atmore got off to a great start, scoring five runs in the first inning. In the second, the local team tacked on another run, but Flomaton added four to tie the game at 6-6 after scoring two in the first.

From there, it was a one-run battle in the third and fourth innings, but Flomaton held a one-run lead going into the fifth inning.

Atmore scored four runs in the fifth to pull away for good.

In some late-game drama, Flomaton scored three runs in the final inning, but Atmore’s defense held strong in the win.

Emmett Battles went 2-for-4 with two runs and a triple; Neal Croom went 2-for-4 with four runs; Josh Burkett went 3-for-4; Exavion Bradley went 2-for-3; and Brodie Phillips went 3-for-3 with a run.

J.T. Alaniz went 4-for-4 to lead Flomaton. Will Smith went 3-for-3 with three runs.

Atmore 6, Monroe 4

Trailing 3-1 in the top of the third inning, Atmore scored four runs to take a lead it would never give up.

Monroe added a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Battles’ RBI double in the sixth put the game in Atmore’s corner.

In some late-game drama, Monroe had bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth with one out, but Atmore’s defense shown through the rest of the way.

Croom went 3-for-3 with two runs; and Carson Wilson went 1-for-3 with a triple to lead Atmore.

Jackson Ried and Zayan McMillian went 3-for-4 each to lead Monroe.

In the first-round game, Atmore beat Flomaton 13-3 in four innings.

Battles went 4-for-4; Croom went 2-for-4; Burkett went 3-for-4; Wilson went 2-for-3; Luke Ball went 3-for-3; and Charlie Sasser went 2-for-2 to lead Atmore.

Flomaton had nine hits in the loss.

Atmore 5, Monroe 3

Atmore scored five runs in the third inning and never looked back en route to the championship win.

Lane Baggett went 3-for-3 with two doubles to lead Atmore. Reece Buck went 2-for-4; and Joseph Ferguson, J.W. Jackson and Chaston Helton went 2-for-2 each. Justin Brunson and J.J. Stevens had one hit each.

For Monroe, Dalton Adams , Tripp Mills, Jack Shadburn, Cade Ledkins, Matthew Watson and Hampton King had one hit each.

Atmore’s 12U All-Stars went undefeated for the season and in district play.

In the district semifinals, Atmore beat Monroe 11-1.

Atmore scored one run in the first inning, four runs in the second inning, three runs in the fourth inning, one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth.

Canyon Odom went 3-for-4 with two runs to lead Atmore. Brunson, Buck and Stevens had one hit each.

Ferguson led Monroe with two hits.

In first-round action, Atmore beat Flomaton 5-3.

Buck and Helton had two hits each to lead Atmore. Baggett had a double.
