Seven residences and one business have been burglarized over the last 16 days in Atmore, Police Chief Chuck Brooks said.

Brooks said the first burglary took place June 5, and the most recent was yesterday, June 21.

“I encourage all home owners to secure their residences, and notify their neighbors to keep a look out and call in any suspicious activity they see around the houses,” Brooks said. “A lot of people are on vacation, so I just encourage everybody to secure and if they can, call in.

“We’ll watch their house for them if they’re going to be out of town,” he said. “We’ll close patrol the area.”

Brooks said that the APD has made two arrests on the burglaries so far. The arrests were for the lone business and a residence on Beck Street.

Jason Michael Wilson, of Atmore, was arrested for the burglary of Amerson Roofing on North Main Street.

Destin Elaine Lowery was arrested and charged with burglary on a residence at the 300 block of Beck Street.

The following is a list of burglaries by date and destination beginning with the most recent:

• June 21 — 200 block of South Trammell Street;

• June 14 — 300 block of Beck Street and 100 block of Curtis Street;

• June 13 — Amerson Roofing on North Main Street and 200 block of Sixth Avenue;

• June 12 — 100 bock of Cloverdale Road;

• June 10 — 300 block of Bragg Street; and,

• June 5 — 200 block of 12th Avenue.

Brooks said this string of burglaries isn’t at all uncommon.

“When the weather turns during the summer months, and when people are out of town and leave, it does pick up this time of year,” he said. “Certainly around Christmas time, it’ll pick up also.”

Brooks said residents and business owners who have somebody they trust to keep a watchful eye out need to do so.

“If they see suspicious activity, or if they suspect anything, they can call the APD and tell us to come and investigate what’s going on,” he said.
