Horace Winston Hobbs

Horace Winston Hobbs died peacefully at home surrounded by his family in Lillian at the age of 84.

Horace is survived by wife, Pat Sanspree Hobbs; three children, Winston Hobbs; wife, Lynn of Brewton; Keith Hobbs and life partner, Tommy Nix of Daphne; and Tony Hobbs and wife, Elizabeth of Lillian; sister, Myrtle Cost and husband, Gene of Jemison; sister, Geneva Brantley and husband, Harlan of Daphne; brother, Kenneth Hobbs and wife, Jamie of Naples, Fla.; three grandchildren, Brian Hobbs and wife, Jennifer; Heather Nelson and husband, Scott and Hunter Hobbs; eight great-grandchildren, Jennings, Bryan, Herrington, Brody, Allen, Griffin, Avery and Sage.

He is preceded in death by his father, Boniford K. Hobbs; and mother, Katie Lee Hobbs.

He was born on Aug. 23, 1931, in Wallace. He graduated in 1949 from Escambia County High School in Atmore. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. He married Pat on July 21, 1956. He worked as an electrician at Pensacola Naval Air Station for 12 years, and then three years at Allied Paper Co. in Jackson. He then worked 29 years as an industrial electrician at Jefferson Smurfit in Brewton before retiring and moving to Baldwin County.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling. He was skilled at woodworking and loved making things with his hands. He was an active and dedicated member of the Lillian United Methodist Church, and previously was ordained a deacon of the Baptist Faith. He was also an active member of the Perdido Bay Optimist Club. His biggest pleasure was taking care of his family, which he tirelessly did throughout his life.

A visitation is scheduled for today, Wed., July 6, at 9:30 a.m. with funeral to follow at 10:30 a.m. at Lillian United Methodist Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Horace’s life.

James Franklin Sexton

Mr. James Franklin Sexton, 88, passed away on Thurs., June 30, 2016, in Century, Fla.

He was a native of Rutledge, Tenn., and has resided in Bratt, Fla. for the past 49 years. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force, a veteran of the Korean War, truck driver for many years, and security at Masland Carpet and other areas. He loved farming, volunteered at the Century Care Center for the past three years and he was of the Baptist faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Beulah Sexton; and one brother, Gordon Sexton Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Allie Mae Sexton of Century; two daughters, Linda Jackson of Atmore and Diane Lambert of Crofton, Md.; two sisters, Millie Sexton and Peggy Webber, both of Tennessee; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tues., July 5, 2016, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Delbert Redditt serving as officiant.

Visitation was held July 4, 2016, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Charles Waters, John Lambert, Mitchell Jones, Dale Solaas, Greg Wearren and Steve Hanks.

Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes LLC of Atmore was in charge of all arrangements.

Ralph Minton Weaver

Mr. Ralph Minton Weaver, 84, passed away on Sat., July 3, 2016, in Brewton.

He was a native of Alvin, Texas, former resident of Magnolia, Texas, and resided in Brewton for the past four months. He was a loving husband and dad.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of Jay, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents, and five siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Von Weaver of Brewton; three sons, Nolan H. (Wendi) Sims Jr. of Montgomery, Texas, Anthony M. Weaver of Magnolia, and Christopher M. Rouse of Conroe, Texas; two daughters, Angela L. (David) Smith and Paula J. Fotenot (Jeff Cuellar), both of Conroe; 17 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held today, Wed., July 6, 2016, at 10 a.m. from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Pres. Jacob Sumrall officiating.

Burial will follow at the Sardis Cemetery.

Visitation was held July 5, 2016, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Reardon, Jerry Creamer, Raymond Creamer, Nolan Sims III, Anthony Weaver Jr. and Harvey Kelley.
