Escambia County Circuit Clerk John Fountain was the guest speaker at the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce’s Breakfast with an Elected Official on Tuesday morning.

Fountain, an East Brewton native, ran for office four years ago, and served as a juvenile probation officer for 11 years.

Fountain talked about the role a circuit clerk and its duties are on a daily basis.

“The circuit clerk’s office is the hub of the judicial side of Escambia County,” he said.

Fountain said his office handles the filings of judges, the courts and acquiring passports, to name a few.

Fountain said he handles filings that deal with civil and criminal cases.

“We handle al of that,” he said.

When Fountain took questions from the crowd, he spoke about the state’s electronic filing system.

“Alabama is No. 1 in electronic filing,” he said.

Fountain said electronic filing allows judges, for example, to access case files anywhere with Internet access.

“It helps speed things up,” he said.

Fountain also talked about jury lists, and how those who acquire drivers licenses are on the list.
