Mary Anna Wilburne

Mrs. Mary Anna Wilburne, 81, of Richton Park, Ill., formerly of Atmore (Nokomis Community), fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on Sun., July 17, 2016, in Chicago.

A native of the Nokomis Community, she was a 1953 graduate of Escambia County Training School. She was a young member of Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church before moving away. She attended nursing school in Hackensack, N.J. before moving to Chicago, and marrying her husband, Willie Louis Wilburne, on July 2, 1956.

She worked as a nursing assistant at Vincennes Manor Nursing Home for several years, after which she worked as a packer and quality control supervisor with Artway Manufacturing Company. Her last employment prior to her retirement was as a home health aide with Community Health Systems, all in the Chicago area. Her Love for Christ lead her to Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago Heights, Ill., and later, she moved her membership to the New Faith Baptist Church in Matteson, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Isom and Winnie Mae Curry Sr.; four sisters, Nettie Curry-Riley, Betty Curry-Riley, Earnestine Curry-Thomas and Annie Curry-Cure; and two brothers, William Curry and Isom Curry Jr.

Those left to cherish memories of her life are her husband of 60 years, Willie Louis Wilburne of Richton Park, Ill.; her daughter. Michelle (Eric) Young of Richton Park, Ill.; her son, William (Linda) Wilburne of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sisters, Jessie Curry-Fisher of Atmore, Edna Kimbrough of West Bloomfield, Mich. and Dorothy Stewart of Bellwood, Ill.; an aunt, Emma Frye of Orangeburg, S.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Public viewing will be held Fri., July 29, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be Sat., July 30, 2016, at 11 a.m. from Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church-Nokomis with the Rev. Dennis Stevens, pastor. Retirement of her remains will be in the Curry Plot in Mt. Shiloh Cemetery. Her body will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the funeral service with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

Patricia “Tricia” Vaughan

Patricia (Tricia) Vaughan, 52, of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away on Sat., July 23, 2016, in Atmore Community Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born in Atmore on October 21, 1963. She went to high school at Ernest Ward High School, where she met her future husband, Byron, and graduated in 1981. She and Byron were married in Walnut Hill Baptist Church on July 1, 1983. Byron and Tricia moved to Texas shortly after their marriage, but returned to Atmore after 20 years to open and run B&T’s Texas Style BBQ. Tricia was well known and loved in the community and an active member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church, where she enjoyed volunteering with the pre-school Sunday school classes and in the nursery.

Tricia is preceded in death by her father, Hubert Bryars; her sister, Rita Faye Bryars; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John Henry and Frances Vaughan.

She is survived by her loving husband, Byron; her daughter, Kalyn (Derek) Parker; and her son, Kevin. She is also survived by her mother, Patricia Amon; three sisters, Jackie (Danny) Gregg, Becky Angeles and Cathy Bryars; one brother, Henery (Susie) Pugh; a brother-in-law, Ken (Kelly) Vaughan; a sister-in-law, Micaela (Scott) Fuller; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles who she loved dearly.

Visitation was held at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home on July 26.

Funeral services will be held at Walnut Hill Baptist Church today, Wed., July 27, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Ted Bridges officiating. A graveside service will follow along with a reception in the church fellowship hall.

Pallbearers will be David Gregg, Nicholas Angeles, Todd Wiggins, Marion Cooper, Ben Porter and David Bell.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Southern Cancer Centers of Alabama and Atmore Community Hospital, and the caring staff at both facilities, to the members of Walnut Hill Baptist Church, and to all family and friends who prayed for Tricia and her family during this difficult time.

Rosa Mae Wallace

Mrs. Rosa Mae Wallace, 86, of Atmore, entered eternal rest on Sun., July 24, 2016, at Baptist Hospital-Pensacola.

Mrs. Wallace was a native of Camden (Wilcox Co.). She moved to Atmore at an early age and attended Ebenezer Lutheran School. She was a retired employee from Atmore Nursing Care Center with over 21 years of service. She also was a caregiver for Dr. J. B. Thomas. She was a member of New Calvary Temple Holiness Church in Century, Fla., where she served as the church mother and a member of Sunday school. She enjoyed singing and some of her favorite songs were “Lord Don’t Move My Mountain” and “Sending Up My Timber Every Day.” She also enjoyed cooking, fishing and was a Big Auburn Tiger Fan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Wallace; two sons, Narvie Lee Riley Jr. and Samuel Riley; her parents, Nathaniel and Cora Freeman and all her siblings, Melvinia Chapman, Buford Mae Stots, Ida Mae Bonner, Mary Ruth Packer, Henry Freeman and Allen Freeman.

Those left to cherish her life, love and legacy are one daughter, Rosa Marie (Wamon) Davis of Atmore; three sons, Bobby (Mary) Riley, Bishop Dashwood (Nancy) Riley and Nelson Riley, all of Atmore; 36 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and a host of great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held this Sat., July 30, 2016, at 2 p.m. from Liberty Missionary Baptist Church-Atmore with Bishop Dashwood Riley as the eulogist and the Rev. Isaac Bradley as the host pastor. Retirement of her remains will be in Stallworth Cemetery. Public viewing will be held Friday, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a family hour from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Her body will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the funeral service with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

Ruth Fraser Slay

Mrs. Ruth Fraser Slay, 89, passed away on Sun., July 24, 2016, in Spanish Fort.

Mrs. Slay was a native of Detroit, Mich., and a resident of Daphne since 1971.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin C. Slay Jr.; and a sister, Alice Fraser Russell.

She is survived by her son, Charles E. Slay of Daphne; two daughters, Martha Moore Slay of Daphne and Rosalyn Slay of Daphne; one grandson, Mark C. (Karen) Moore of Daphne; and two great-grandsons, James Reilly Moore and Colston Slay Moore.

Visitation will be today, Wed., July 27, 2016, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
