The Atmore City Council adopted resolutions to elect four councilmembers and the Mayor without opposition at its meeting Monday night.

Last Tuesday, qualifying for municipal elections ended. Mayor Jim Staff, Webb Nall, Chris Walker and Susan Smith didn’t have any one qualify to run against them at the time. However, Chris Harrison of District 5 had one person, Sandra Gray, qualify to run for the seat. Gray was disqualified later in the week because she didn’t file her statement of economic interest at the same time as her qualifying papers. This gave Harrison an unopposed run. Harrison was elected without opposition at the council meeting.

Coach Cornell Torrence of District 2 isn’t going to run for reelection. Four have qualified for his seat, including Johnnie Jones, Michael Arnold, Russell Robinson and Jerome Webster.

The municipal election is Tues., Aug. 23.

In other business, the council:

• appointed Dr. Ullysses McBridge to the Atmore Industrial Development Board;

• adopted a resolution for an agreement for access to the industrial park at Rivercane, where Brown Precision will be located;

• approved the second annual Community Youth Walk, set for Sat., July 30; and,

• adopted a proclamation for a bicyclist who is riding through Atmore soon to help raise money for “Hope for Gabe.”
