The Rev. Charlton Lee Calhoun

The Rev. Charlton Lee Calhoun, 74, passed away on Thurs., July 28, 2016, in Bay Minette.

Mr. Calhoun was a native of Altha, Fla., former resident of Orlando, Fla., and has resided in Bay Minette for the past 29 years. He was a member of the Church of God in Cleveland, Tenn.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Mary Calhoun; a sister, Lois Calhoun; and an infant son.

He is survived by his five children, Jenifer and James Harrison of Bay Minette, Cynthia and Wayne Igo of Century, Fla., Michelle and James A. Blackmon of Bay Minette, Amy R. Roberts of Lake Wales, Fla. and Lisa and Bobby Respress of Ft. Meade, Fla.; his special four-legged friend, Rocky Calhoun; 12 grandchildren, Melissa and William Bass, Kimberly and John Blair, Ashley and Stephen Robertson, Jessica and Chris Phillips, Stephen Harrison, Alison and Amber Blackmon, Bethany, Jacob and Emma Respress and Wade and Annalea Roberts; eight great-grandchildren, Nicholas Harrison, Jordymn Phillips, Chris Phillips, Jr., Travis Peavy, Jackson Peavy, Zane Blair, Blayne Blair and William “Liam” Leighton Bass; four brothers, Arnol and Cyndi Calhoun of Texas, the Rev. Ernest and Velma Calhoun of Orlando, Lloyd Calhoun of Chipley, Fla. and Trellis and Alexandra Calhoun of Orlando; two sisters, Helen Sperry of Jacksonville, Fla. and Birtie Rider of Orlando; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Mon., Aug. 1, 2016, from the Vision Ministries Church of God with the Rev. Alan Blackmon, the Rev. Ernest Calhoun and the Rev. Joe Welch officiating.

Burial followed at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation was held July 31 at the Vision Ministries Church of God.

Pallbearers were Stephen Harrison, Wade Roberts, Jacob Respress, Bo Bass, John Blair and Stephen Robertson.

Roy “Wine” Darby

Mr. Roy “Wine” Darby, 73, passed away on Sat., July 30, 2016, in McDavid, Fla.

He was a native of Pensacola, Fla., and a resident of McDavid for most of his life. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of the Bratt First Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Darby.

He is survived by fiancé, Beverly (B.K.) Williams; one son, Roy Bryan (Butch) and Pamala Darby; two daughters, Barbeline McCaw and Vicki Darby; one brother, Tommy Darby; one sister, Elaine Darby; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be tomorrow, Thurs., Aug. 4, 2016, at 11 a.m. from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Delbert Redditt officiating.

Burial will follow at the Crary Cemetery.

Visitation will be today, Wed., Aug. 3, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Richard McCaw, Kevin Williams, Ed Gilman, Buddy Trawick, Terry Bryan and Romeo Coleman.

Honorary pallbearers will be the senior adult men’s class.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bratt First Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.

Mavis Joyce Chavers Singleton

Mavis Joyce Chavers Singleton, 82, of Atmore, passed away Fri., July 29, 2016, in Fairhope.

She was a homemaker, born on Nov. 13, 1933 in Escambia County to the late Wardlow and Audrey Dreadin Chavers. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Canoe.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Preston Chavers; and a sister, Evelyn Tuberville.

Survivors are two sons, Garrie (Shannon) Singleton and Chris Singleton, both of Atmore; a daughter, Linda Kaye (Chet) Helton, of Atmore; one brother, Jerry (Cheryl) Vickery of Huxford; one sister, Judy (John) Layton of Yulee, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Services were held Aug. 1, 2016, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Renfore officiating. Interment followed in Huxford Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers were Brad Trawick, Chad Helton, Brian Harrison, Marty Chavers, Matthew Vickery, and Butch Black. Honorary Pallbearers were Jody Singleton, Justin Singleton, and Brian Helton.

Family received friends Aug. 1 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Freida Stacey Johnston

Mrs. Freida Stacey Johnston, 54, passed away on Sun., July 24, 2016, in Rabun.

She was a native of Atmore and a life-long resident of Rabun.

She is preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Johnston; parents, Lonnie and Clinie Stacey; sister, Flossie Stacey; two brothers, Fate Stacey and Ferrell Stacey; and a special niece, Natasha Luker.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Stacey of Perdido; three brothers, Fred Stacey, Filmer Stacey and Faburn Stacey, all of Rabun; two sisters, Fern Smith Gill of Dyas and Fay Luker of Bay Minette; and one grandchild, Krista Stacey of Flomaton.

Funeral services were held July 29 from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Bubba Rolin and Sis Helen Stewart officiating.

Burial followed at the Dean Cemetery.

Visitation was July 28 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Hadley, Roger Hadley, Will Stacey, Chris Gill, Levi Gill and Larry Ray Johnson.

Eugene Jacob “Jake” Smith

Eugene Jacob “Jake” Smith was born to the late, Ike and Rhoda Unruh Smith, on Jan. 19, 1922 in Copeland, Kan.

He went to his eternal home on July 29, 2016, at the Atmore Nursing Center, his earthly home for the last year and two months, reaching 94 years of age.

His passing was quiet and peaceful with his wife and family surrounding him. He was very clear in his mind to the end, responding to his son, Larry, when he arrived from Arizona as though he was waiting for him; and then within minutes, quietly slipped away. He was a member of the Walnut Hill Mennonite Church. He was a farmer, hard worker, talented carpenter and assisted in building many of the homes and dairy barns.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law; one son-in-law, Kale Schneider; one grandson; two great-grandsons; one brother; three brothers in law; and four sisters in law.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 74 years, Eunice Eicher Smith of Brooksville, Miss., as they were married on June 14, 1942, in Summerdale; one son, Larry (Karen) Smith of Surprise, Ariz.; three daughters, Donna Schneider of Bratt, Fla., Patricia (Mark) Johnson and Marilyn (Royce) Schneider, all of Walnut Hill; 17 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; four brothers in law, Ward and Dolly Eicher, Willie and Lois Eicher , Wallace and Judy Eicher and Wendell and Mary Eicher; two sisters in law, Althea Dyck, Imo and Wilbert Peters; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Services will be today, Wed., Aug. 3, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. from the Walnut Hill Mennonite Church with Ministers Carlos Koehn, Mike Koehn, Wilbert Peters and Galen Harms officiating.

Interment will follow in Walnut Hill Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Schneider, Anthony Schneider, Clifton Smith, Mervin Smith, Perry Schneider and Greg Schneider.

Family received friends Aug. 2 at the Walnut Hill Mennonite Church.

Charles Wesley “Road Buddy” Bradford

Funeral service for Mr. Charles Wesley “Road Buddy” Bradford, 62, of Atmore, will be announced by Turner Funeral Chapel LLC.

Mr. Bradford died Monday in Atmore.
