Citronelle is coming to town for a preseason contest against Escambia County tomorrow night in Atmore.

The Blue Devils’ varsity squad will play the entire first half. The junior varsity and back ups will play the second half.

ECHS head football coach Royce Young said even though the guys are a week away from their opener against Wilcox Central, they will be competing for starting spots during the preseason game.

“Typically, at this time of year you want to see where you are as far as how well the kids are learning their responsibilities and how well they’re executing the responsibilities,” Young said. “In our boat, we have so many young ones and lost many from last year’s team, that we’re still looking for starters. We’re going to have guys competing for starting jobs (tomorrow night).”

On the JV side, Young said there are going to be many players that will dress out on Friday nights, and getting them some playing time is key.

“They’ll all play and have significant roles,” he said.

This will be Escambia County’s first time to play CHS, a school that dropped down to Class 5A from 6A in the most recent reclassification realignment. ECHS dropped to Class 4A.

“We don’t have a lot of information on them other than the fact that they have a good, impressive quarterback,” Young said.

Young said those who he has spoken to have said that the CHS quarterback is referred to as a “Johnny Manziel” type player.

Kick off is slated for 7 p.m. tomorrow.
