Editor’s note: The following announcement was submitted by the candidate.

I, Johnnie Jones, am a graduate of Escambia County Training School, and I attended Alabama State University for three years. I am running for the Atmore city council District 2 seat.

I then entered the U.S. Air Force, where I served my country for fours years with a focus in telecommunications. I had top secret clearance. I worked for Ford Motor Co. for 30 years in the quality control department until retirement.

I am an active member of the New Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. I have been a faithful contributor to St. Jude, the Sickle Cell Foundation, and more. I am a member of NAACP, and have worked tirelessly with Red Cross, Little League baseball, Wounded Vets, Cancer Organization, Foster Parents, Concerned Citizens of Atmore and voter registration.

My goal is to see harmony and peace within this city among our citizens and fellow officers. I promote unity among all, and I have a special interest in making sure our youth receive a good education to prepare them for a successful future.

If elected, I will deliver great service to the city of Atmore and to my district. I will have an open door policy, and address each issue that is brought before me in an effective manner.
