Final Market in the Park of year held last Saturday

The rain stopped falling and the clouds parted for the final Market in the Park Saturday at Heritage Park.

There, vendors selling fruits, vegetables, jams, crafts, plants and even shrimp were being sold at the park.

Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sheryl Vickery said the seventh installment of Market in the Park went well.

“They’ve (markets) been very good,” Vickery said. “This is probably the least attended one (on Saturday).”

During the months of June, July and August, Market in the Park has given farmers and local crafters the chance to sell their wares. There have been some six Saturday mornings dedicated to Market in the Park.

Vickery said she wanted to start in May, but farmers said that nothing was growing then.

“They tell me when to do them to help sell their produce,” she said.

Vickery said Market in the Park began as a small produce marketplace downtown, but has grown.

“We moved it to Heritage Park when it got to the size it could be,” she said.

Market in the Park is still a good thing for farmers, Vickery said.

“We do it for the local farmers,” she said. “They work hard for their money.”
