The U.S. Supreme Court stayed the execution of Tommy Arthur on a temporary basis, approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes after the court delayed his execution earlier tonight, according to reports.
The delay of Arthur’s execution was set to end at 8 p.m., but it wasn’t clear as to when the court will make its decision.
Alabama Department of Corrections Public Relations Manager Bob Horton said the court’s stay is only temporary, and the court could make a decision tonight. The court has to make a decision before midnight, or the execution will be scheduled for another date.
“We’re in a holding pattern … We’re going to continue to wait for the Supreme Court,” Horton said on AL.com’s website.
