The Forever Young Senior Citizens Appreciation Day celebration on Nov. 26 was a big success organizers said Monday.

Dr. Bernard Bishop with Destiny Worship Center said the fun and games exceeded last year’s appreciation day.

“We did a game called name that tune, which featured 1960s music,” Bishop said. “Those who named a tune won a door prize.

“They really enjoyed that a lot,” he said.

Bishop said the event, held at The Club, drew a good-sized crowd even with the Iron Bowl being played at the same time.

Bishop said Sandra Gray did a presentation on insurance, Medicare and Medicaid, and also handed out one-day natural disaster survivor kits.

“Our elements of worship did some singing with the seniors,” Bishop said. “They opened up the event. The group is made up of young people, and it was good for them to be able to give back to the seniors.”

Bishop said Natalie Coates of the McCullough Christian Center performed a praise dance.

Those who won gifts or were recognized at the event include:

• Ida Baldwin, 92, as the oldest attendee. Baldwin won a box of non-perishable goods.

• Ceola Hubert — cake contest winner.

• Pastor Isabell Brazzell — cake contest winner.

Bishop said the event wouldn’t have been possible without those who helped.

“I just want to thank the community, the businesses and churches that contributed, and for all the volunteers that came and served,” he said.
